PATNA: The state government in Bihar in an exemplary move has announced to launch a campaign against dowry a year after the government launched crackdown on alcoholism.
At a meeting held in Patna on Friday, chief minister Nitish Kumar asked the officials to chalk out an action plan to start an intensive campaign against dowry and also child marriages.
“Dowry has emerged as a major social evil now. Girls are now going more vocal against this malaise and we have to deal with it,” the chief minister told the officials.
He even asked the authority to stop child marriages, describing them as the root-cause of half of the social problems.
Of late, dowry has emerged as a major social evil in the state. It has been claiming thousands of lives every year in the state.
If the government is able to control the demon of dowry, Bihar will indeed set a new example for the society the way it went ahead with imposing total prohibition ignoring opposition from a powerful section.
