Ayodhya: A day before the country celebrates Diwali festival, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh headed बाईब Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday announced that Faizabad will now be known as Ayodhya.
The re christening of the historic district comes barely months before the next LS polls are scheduled to be held in April 2019.
The BJP has already revived the old issue of constructing Ram Temple at Ayodhya and has expressed anguish over Supreme Court’s move to defer the Ayodhya case trial till early next year.
Ayodhya, a mythologically significant Uttar Pradesh city, is revered by millions of Hindus as the birthplace of Lord Ram.
“Ayodhya hamari aan baan shaan ka prateek hai, Ayodhya ki pehchan Bhagwan Ram se hai. Aaj se is janpad(Faizabad) ka naam bhi Ayodhya hoga (Ayodhya is a symbol of honour, pride and prestige. It’s identity is from Lord Ram, and so from today the entire Faizabad district will be known as Ayodhya),” Yogi was quoted as saying at a function by news agency ANI.

At present, Faizabad encompasses twin towns of Ayodhya and Faizabad.
He also announced to construct an airport at this place after Ram and set up a medical college after Kind Dashratha, father of Ram.
The announcement was made by the CM just days after Allahabad was officially renamed as Prayagraj.
