PATNA: Alleged molester crushed a woman to death in Bihar after she had stoutly opposed his frequent molestation bids and sexual advances.
The police have registered a case in this regards even as rising incidents of molestation has become a matter of serious concern in Bihar.
Police said Indu Devi was returning home with her younger sister Ranju Devi after seeing a doctor in Sitamarhi district on Monday evening when the alleged molester riding a bike came from behind and ran his bike over them.
Both sustained serious injuries in the incident. As per report, the attacker was driving the bike with a high speed and by the time they tried to save themselves, the attacker hit them.
Hearing their cries, the local villagers rushed to the spot and admitted the wounded women to the hospital where the elder one succumbed to her injuries.
“The youth had been sexually harassing us for the past six months which we had been strongly opposing. On Monday while I was returning home with my sister, he hit us from behind. My sister died in the incident, while I sustained serious injuries,” the girl told the police at the hospital where she has been admitted for treatment. The police have registered a case on the basis of her statement.
“We have registered the case on the basis of statements of the victim undergoing treatment at the hospital and further investigation is on,” the local Sitamarhi district superintendent of police Vikas Barman has told the media.
The incident comes barely a fortnight after dozens of school girls from a government school in Bihar were badly assaulted by rampaging goons in the school compound. At least 40 girl students who sustained serious wounds in the attacks had to admitted to a local government health centre for treatment.
The incident had taken place at Kasturba Gandhi Girls’ residential school, Daprakha in Supaul district earlier this month. Victims said they were playing in the school ground when a group of youths passed lewd remark at them which they resisted, leading to brutal attacks on unarmed girls.
In the aftermath of the incident, the state government has announced to make deployment of women constables in all the 631 Kasturba Gandhi Girls Schools functioning across the state. The government has also announced to raise the boundary walls of all such girls’ schools and install CCTV cameras there.
