PATNA: A 19-year-old girl in Bihar ended her life by hanging from the temple bell after her boyfriend died in a fatal road accident. She chose the temple premises to end her life apparently to express her anguish with the God.
Police said the before committing the suicide, the victim had written “I love you Raja” all over her body and also put a vermillion mark on her head so intense was her love for the deceased.
The bizarre incident took place at Sihori village in Kamiur district, some 200 km south-west of Patna, on Thursday but was reported to the police on Friday.
Reports said Priyanka Kumari, daughter of Ashok Ram, was madly in love with Raja Babu Gupta, son of a local businessman. Both had studied in the same school and after they passed the matriculation examinations got admitted to the same college in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.
On Thursday, the boy had left home on his motorcycle for the college but was hit was a speeding truck midway as he died on the spot.
The news of his death shocked the girl so much so that she wept inconsolably all through the day as her family members took care of her till midnight and consoled her. Post midnight when the family members fell asleep, she rushed to the local temple and hanged herself from the temple bell with her long scarf.
The incident came to light when the local villagers rushed to temple in the morning to offer prayers. Subsequently, they informed the police who rushed to the spot and sent her body for postmortem.
“There was vermillion mark on her head and ‘I love you’ written on hands, legs, stomach and neck,” a local police official Santosh Kumar told the media today.
“Primary information suggested that the girl ended her life out of shock after losing her boyfriend. We have registered a case,” the police official added.
