PATNA: Angry mob lynched a man in Bihar on the charges of stealing a buffalo barely days after similar mob had killed a youth for eloping with a girl.
The incident took place at in Purnia district, some 350 km east of Patna, on Monday night but was reported in the media on Wednesday.
Reports quoting the police said Bathan Hembrom was asleep in his home when he heard barking of dogs.
He got up from bed and checked his cattle in the cattle-shed outside his home. During the check, he found one buffalo missing from there and raised an alarm.
Hearing his cries, local villagers rushed to the spot and caught a thief. This was followed by his severe beating as a result of which the thief died on the spot. The victim has been identified as Mohammad Shaukat.
The police have registered a case and begun investigation.
Earlier this week, a man was lynched before being set on fire by an angry mob in Sitamarhi district for eloping with his co-villager’s wife.
