PATNA: Senior Congress leader and parliamentarian Mohammad Asrarul Haque died of heart attack early Friday. He represented Kishnaganj in the Lok Sabha.
His death is being considered as yet another setback for the Grand Alliance as he had considerable hold over the masses.
Haque, a noted Islamic scholar, had gone to attend a religious function on Thursday night when he was exposed to cold.
He was immediately rushed to a local hospital but suffered heart attack midway and passed away.
Haque had won the 2009 LS seat from Ksihanganj after defeating the BJP nominee. He retained the seat in 2014 even at the peak of Narendra Modi wave.
Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav have expressed grief over sudden demise of the leader.
Last year, the neighbouring Araria seat had fallen vacant after RJD MP Mohammad Taslimuddin had died after a prolonged illness.
Taslimuddin had represented Kishanganj before shifting to Araria.
