PATNA: A special CBI court in Jharkhand today awarded four years of jail to former RJD minister Iliyas Hussain in 26-year-old bitumen scam.
Hussain, a prominent leader from the RJD represents Dehri seat in the Bihar assembly.
Special CBI judge Anil Kumar Mishra also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on Hussain who along with two others who too were convicted by the court, media reports said.
The scam had surfaced in 1992 after which the CBI registered a case against Hussain who was then the road construction minister in the Lalu Prasad government.
Last year, a CBI court in Patna had acquitted Hussain along with five other accused persons in the 21-year-old bitumen scam for lack of evidence.
The case pertained to loot of Rs 3.9 million meant for purchase o bitumen in Supaul district.
The sentencing has come as a major setback to the RJD with the party chief Lalu Prasad already in jail in three fodder scam cases.
