PATNA: Forest department authorities have announced to ban use of poly bags in wildlife sanctuaries of Bihar from May saying they are posing ecological hazards.
Authorities say the visitors on the sightseeing trips of forests often throw out empty water bottles, poly bags and other non-degradable material which harm the environments and also prove deadlier for animals.
“Littering such items in forest areas poses ecological hazards. We are in receipt of such complaints and have decided to ban their use from May,” chief wildlife warden US Jha was quoted as saying in a local newspaper today.
Authorities said prior to banning these items, an awareness drive would be launched.
“Still if they fail to follow the advice, the guilty will be punished,” the official said.
