PATNA: A university professor Sanjay Kumar was publicly humiliated and thrashed in Bihar after he reportedly shared a Facebook post criticising former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Vajpayee, the tallest BJP personality, died after prolonged illness on Thursday and was cremated with full military honours on Friday evening as the Indian government announced seven-day mourning.
Kumar who works with Mahatma Gandhi Central University located at Motihari town in east Champaran district had reportedly commented on a friend’s post regarding Vajpayee which drew anger of his supporters.
According to his complaint, a group of 20-25 attackers entered his rented home on Friday afternoon, dragged him out and then assaulted him badly after tearing off his clothes.
The mob also reportedly tried to burn him alive although he somehow escaped death.
The victim with severe wounds was soon rushed to a local hospital in a critical from where he was referred to All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna for better treatment.
The victim has registered a case against 12 persons with the local police in connection with the incident. The police are investigating the case.
“None has to right to take law into their own hands. The matter is being investigated and action will be taken against the culprits after investigation,” the local district superintendent of police Upendra Kumar Sharma told the local media on Saturday.
The RJD linked the incident to the collapsed law and order situation in the State and attacked the NDA government over the issue.
