PATNA: A man in Bihar strangulated his newborn baby girl to death after his wife didn’t bear a male child.

The accused Prabhash Ram, a resident of Madhepura district, wanted a male child after his first baby turned out to be a girl.

So, when the female child came to his family for the second time, he got hugely angry with his wife Kanchan Kumari.

On Friday morning when his wife went out to attend nature’s call leaving her baby in the safe company of father, the man went near her and strangulated her to death.

The woman got shocked after finding her baby lying lifeless on the bed and blood oozing out of her nose.

She hurriedly raised an alarm after which her husband started fleeing the scene.

However, the local villagers caught him after giving him a hot chase and handed over to the police.

In October a woman from Bihar’s Banka district had buried her barely one-month-old baby girl alive to get rid of the blind child from both eyes.

The gender discrimination is quite awful in Bihar, and according to a report, the sex ratio in at least nine districts out of state’s total 38 is less than 900 against state’s average at 916 per 1000 male population, an official report has said.
