PATNA: A special NIA court today convicted all five accused persons in the 2013 Bodh Gaya serial blasts which sparked widespread protests from Buddhists.
Bodh Gaya is the holiest of holy land for the Buddhists across the globe where Buddha had got enlightenment.
Judge Manoj Kumar held all the accused guilty of planting bombs in and around Mahabodhi temple at Bodh Gaya after going through the evidence. The quantum of punishment will be announced on May 31.
Those held guilty in the case included Haider Ali alias Black Beauty, Imtiaz Ansari, Umar Siddiqui, Azharuddin Quraishi and Mujibullah Ansari.
“The convicts were Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) operatives also having connections with Indian Mujahideen,” the judge was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
As many as nine blasts within 30 minutes had rocked the Buddha land on the fateful morning when a large crowd of Buddhist monks and visitors had visited the temple for morning prayers.
As per media reports, the attacks were in response to the alleged Buddhist atrocities against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.
