PATNA: A “child” prisoner fled a remand home in Jharkhand to celebrate the birthday of his wife, police said today.
The bizarre incident took place at a remand home in Gumla district on Wednesday night.
Reports said the cops were monitoring the security of remand home on the fateful night when they noticed a rope made of bed-sheets hanging from the walls of the jail.
During the counting of inmates which followed later, one child prisoner was found missing from there. The missing prisoner Rahul Lakda was lodged in ward number three of the correction home.
Around midnight, the police conducted raids at the native village of the missing prisoner local at Manjha Tola under Raidih police station in the same district and recovered the inmate who was hiding there.
During interrogation, the prisoner said he had fled the remand home to celebrate birthday of his wife although he couldn’t do that since she was away.
“When we reached his home, he jumped from the bed and hid under the bed of the dark room but we caught him after extensive searches of his house,” a local police official Rajesh Kumar told Gulf News on Friday.
The arrested inmate has been sent back to jail and inquiry ordered to verify his real age.
