Cold diarrhoea strikes Dalit hamlet in Bihar, four dead
PATNA: Angry villagers blocked roads and protested on the streets after four people died of cold diarrhoea in Bihar in the past 48 hours.
The village in the grip of disease is Itpakawa tucked away in Kauakol block of Nawada district, a south Bihar district considered very backward on development index.
All the victims are said to be from the Dalit community who had eaten stale food, according to the health officials.
Villagers said first a child identified as Sachin Kumar fell victim to the disease on Wednesday. Soon, three more villagers died one by one at quick intervals.
Reports said a family had eaten stale food after which he came in the grip of cold diarrhoea which later spread to the entire village. Currently 60 villagers are said to be suffering from the disease.
Today the villagers turned angry after finding that they were not being provided adequate health facilities at the local government hospital where they were admitted for treatment.
“We are arranging proper medical treatment to the victims. Action will be taken against the negligent doctors,” Kauakol acting block development official Sunil Kumar was quoted as saying in a local media today.
