PATNA: Parliamentarian Pappu Yadav played perfect Santa on Monday when he handed out cheques to 37 families of victims killed in alleged Maoist violence in Gaya district of Bihar.
Yadav who heads the Jan Adhikar Party distributed cheques among the victim families at a rally held in Imamganj block of Gaya district.
Each family was handed out a cheque of Rs25,000.
He defended the Maoists saying they are neither extremists nor traitors, rather being part of the society.
“The real extremists are the political leaders against whom actions need to be taken,” he demanded.
He described Maoists as very much the part of the society and charged the police with torturing the common men branding them as naxalites/Maoists.
He said the Maoists were able to spread their tentacles in the whole of Magadh region comprising five districts just because of the wrong policies of the government.
Yesterday, Yadav who represents Madhepura seat in the Lok Sabha had distributed blankets and saris among thousands of poor women from his constituency.
