New Delhi: A controversial Indian godman with millions of followers was on Wednesday sentenced to prison until death by a special court which convicted him for raping a teenaged girl earlier in the day.

Asaram was convicted at a closed jailhouse court hearing at Jodhpur in Rajasthan where he has been lodged for the past about five years.

The 77-year-old godman was convicted under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act, a Gulf News report said.
