PATNA: An illegally-run nursing home in the Indian state of Jharkhand chopped off genitals of a newborn baby boy just to prove its sex determination test report was true, leading to instantaneous death of the baby much before he could see the new world.
The horrible incident took place at Itkhori block which falls under Chatra district in Jharkhand, some 200 km south of Patna, on Tuesday. The police have sealed the nursing home while raids are on nab the absconding doctors.
As per report, Gudia Devi, wife of Anil Panda from Bali village in the district, was admitted to the said nursing home in question on Tuesday after her labour pain started. The woman had eight-month-old pregnancy.
Soon after being admitted there, the doctors conducted her ultrasound test and told the family that she has a baby girl in her womb, family members told the police.
In the meanwhile, the doctors told the family members that the patient requires immediate caesarian operation as her condition is critical. The family members agreed for that and also paid the fees in advance.
Instantly, the patient was brought to the operation theatre but much to doctors’ shock, the woman delivered a baby boy! Moments later, the doctors picked up the baby boy and allegedly chopped off his the sex organs only to prove what they had said earlier was true.
“The doctors chopped off the sex organs of the baby boy and told us that the woman has delivered a baby girl with some physical deformities,” the family members said.
However, patient’s mother-in-law Kalyani Devi was somehow able to see the misdeeds of the doctors and created scenes as the entire story finally came to light.
Reports said finding themselves in troubles, the doctors tried to reach at a compromise with the victim family but they refused and instead reported the case to the local police which reached to the spot and sealed the nursing home.
However, the doctors fled the scene. The police are now conducting to arrest the absconding doctors identified as Dr Anuj Kumar and Dr Arun Kumar.
“The incident has come to our knowledge. This is equivalent to murder. We are going to initiate severe punitive action against the accused doctors,” the local civil surgeon, Chatra, SP Singh told the media on Wednesday.
Jharkhand health minister Ramchandra Chnadravansi has sought a detailed report from the local health officials and promised stringent actions against the erring doctors.
