PATNA: Ailing Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad reached Patna on Saturday a day after the Jharkhand High Court rejected his plea for another extension of provisional bail on health grounds and instead asked him to surrender by August 30.
Prasad who suffers from multiple health complications was currently admitted to the Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai, undergoing treatment under the observation of doctors.
He has been diagnosed with at least 15 different kinds of disease which include Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, peri-anal abscess, cardiac problems and acute kidney injury.
Today, however, he got abruptly discharged from the hospital and reached Patna by flight. It’s, however, not clear when he will surrender in the court.
Coming out of the airport on a wheelchair to ride his car, the RJD said he is still not fully cured but refused to entertain any queries either over politics or mass rape of girls in Bihar care homes.
“I have been told (by the court) not to speak,” he told the media on being frequently asked to speak over various issues of social and political interest. Soon he rode his car and sped away to reach his home.
On Friday, the Patna High Court had rejected Prasad’s appeal to extend his provisional bail for another three months, observing that latter health condition is not life threatening.
“The treatment for post-fistula surgery can be availed here (in Ranchi) at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences,” High court judge Aparesh Kumar Singh was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Prasad who was serving jail sentences in two fodder scam cases in Ranchi jail was granted five-day parole to attend the wedding of his eldest son Tej Pratap Yadav on May 9 this year. Even as he was busy in solemnising the wedding of son, the court granted him provisional bail for six weeks on medical grounds.
