PATNA: A dreaded gangster facing trial in many criminal cases was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the court premises in Bihar.
Witnesses and police said Abhishek Jha was being taken to the sub-divisional court at Sikrahana in West Champaran district on Monday when some motorcycle-borne criminals opened indiscriminate fire on him, wounding him critically.
He was instantly rushed to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Reports said son after the incident a police team gave a hot chase to the miscreants in a bid to catch them but they fled after throwing chilly powder in their eyes.
According to police, the victim was a sharp shooter of a criminal gang and had come to light after the killing of two engineers in Darbanga recent. He was lodged in Motihari central jail facing trial in about a dozen of criminal cases.
“We have cordoned off the entire areas and scanning the CCTV footages to get near the miscreants. They will be caught soon,” the local district superintendent of police Upendra Kumar Sharma told the media on Monday.
