PATNA: Five Maoists, including two women cadres, were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Odisha on Monday in what authorities describe as the biggest operation against the rebels in the past three years, police said today.
The gun-battle took place in the Malkagiri area of the Odisha.
Acting on an information about the movement of some rebels in the areas, security forces were rushed to the spot.
Seeing the forces, the rebels resorted to fire leading to bitter gun-battle in which five Maoists were gunned down.
“When security forces were looking for the rebels, it led to an exchange of fire,””Odisha director general of police RP Sharma was quoted as saying by India Today.
The security forces also recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition from the spot during the search operation.
