RANCHI: Former deputy mayor of Dhanbad and Congress leader Neeraj Singh was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday evening in Jharkhand, sparking panic in the areas. Police describe it as the fallout of gang-war.
Police said the victim along with three persons was returning to his home in Dhanbad town on his car when the motorcycle-borne criminals sprayed bullets on his car, killing all of them on the spot.
Reports said the criminals fired some 50 bullets on them, causing big holes at many places in the car. After committing the crime, the gangsters fled.
“Four persons, including former deputy mayor, have been killed in the shootout. We have formed a special investigation team to probe the killing,” a spokesperson of the Jharkhand police RK Mallik told the media today.
Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav condemned the killing and attacked the Jharkhand government for failure to contain crime.
“Curfew like situation in Dhanbad. Deputy Mayor shooted in broad daylight. Crime at its Height in BJP ruled Jharkhand. BJP sponsoring criminals (sic),” Tejashwi tweeted.
