Gangsters kidnap BJP leader’s son in Jharkhand, seek Rs20 cr ransom

PATNA: Police have formed a Special Investigation Team after gangsters kidnapped three students, including son of a BJP leader, in Jharkhand.

The gangsters have sought a ransom of Rs 20 crore (Rs200 million) in lieu of their safe release.

Police said the Shivam Singh (15), son of BJP leader Madan Singh, his cousin Gaurav Singh and a friend Abhishek had gone out of their Sai colony residence under Chutia police station in Ranchi on Tuesday by car, promising to return home soon.

But when they didn’t return till late the night, the family members turned anxious and registered a case missing with the local police.

On Wednesday, their car was found abandoned in the Nagadi police station areas. Shortly thereafter, the gangsters called up the BJP leader and sought a ransom of Rs 20 crore in exchange for their release.

“Your son is safe. You just make arrangement for money,” the victim family quoted the caller as having told them.

The gangsters have threatened to kill them if they fail to cough up the ransom.

Shivam studies in class eight while Gaurav is enrolled in class nine. Shivam’s father who is a BJP leader also runs a private school named St Columbus School in Chutia, reports said.
