Girl attempts suicide after being gang-raped in running train in Jharkhand

PATNA: A girl student tried to end her life by consuming poison after she was gang-raped in a moving train in Jharkhand. The victim has been admitted to a local hospital for treatment after she gulped poison out of extreme frustration.

The horrible incident took place in an express train last week but came to light after the victim made abortive bid to end her life. The victim is enrolled in an educational institute in Ranchi.

As per reports, the victim who hails from Punjab had boarded an express train at Anand Vihar station in New Delhi to reach Ranchi at 10 pm on February 5.

“The very next day at around midnight when the train was about to reach Ranchi, three youths came near my seat in the sleeper boggy, switched off the light and gang-raped me one by one. After committing the crime, they jumped out of the train midway,” the victim has told the police. Reports said there was no other passenger or police near her seat in the boggy at the time of incident.

The incident shook her so much so that the victim consumed poison to end her life soon after reaching her hostel. She was soon rushed to the hospital and it was only after she regained consciousness that she revealed the entire incident to the police.

The railway police have formed a special investigation team to investigate the case and arrest the absconding accused persons. “We have formed a special investigation team and are conducting raids to nab the absconding rapists,” a local superintendent of police (railways) Sangeeta Tiwari told the media on Saturday.

According to her, the police are scanning the footages of CCTV installed at the stations where the incident took place.

Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das too has promised stern action against the accused persons. “I’m pained at the beastly act with a daughter coming to Ranchi from Delhi by train. The culprits won’t be spared at any cost,” the chief minister said.

The chief minister also promised free medical treatment to the victim girl.
