PATNA: A young girl in Bihar was tied to a tree and beaten up mercilessly by the villagers after she eloped with her boyfriend.
The incident took place at Jogia-Maran village under Rajauli police station in Nawada district on Thursday.
According to reports in the local media, the girl who comes from the Muslim community had fallen in love with a local Hindu boy and later eloped with him on September 30 after her parents refused their marriage.
Since then she had been staying with her boyfriend who lived in a nearby village.
Yesterday, the villagers brought the girl to her village after which a village court was held. The court ordered for assaulting the girl.
Subsequently, she was tied to a tree and assaulted badly by the villagers, including her parents, until she fell unconscious, media reports said.
“We are investigating the case and action will be taken against culprits after an investigation,” Nawada SP Hari Prasath S told the media on Friday.
