Ahmedabad: Hours after the Congress reached an agreement with Gujarat Patidar community, a massive clash broke out as angry members of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) clashed with Congress workers and attacked party offices in Surat, protesting over ticket distribution ahead of the state Assembly polls, media reports said.
The fracas broke out following the release of Congress’ first list of 77 candidates, which includes 19 PAAS members, two of them being Hardik Patel aides.
The agitators protested against the inclusion of the two leaders- Lalit Vasoya and Nilesh Patel- saying their names had been included without any consultation.
According to reports, the agitated protesters also allegedly vandalised Congress office in Surat.
A large number of policemen were brought in to prevent a similar scene at the Congress headquarters in Ahmedabad and other places in the state.
The Congress-Patidar agreement appeared to be fragile as only late on Sunday night the Hardik Patel-led PASS and the Congress reached an agreement on quotas after weeks of discussions. They, however, disagreed on seat sharing.
