Hollywood actor Richard Gere’s presence adds colours to Buddhist event at Bodh Gaya
PATNA: The 34th Kalchakra Puja being conducted by the Dalai Lama at Bodh Gaya has drawn attention of millions of Buddhists settled across the globe.
But, there is another man who has emerged as a star attraction at the event—he is Hollywood actor Richard Gere now joining the Kalcharja puja.
Gere who arrived Bodh Gaya with his Spanish girlfriend Alejandra Silva on Friday, can be seen meditating near the Dalai Lama at the Kalchakra ground and listening to his preaching in English.
The puja organizing committee has made Gere’s sitting arrangement on the left side of Dalia’s throne.
The twice divorce divorced American actor who has memorable films to credit such as Pretty Woman and An Officer and a Gentleman has embraced Buddhism.
Being a long time disciple of Dalai, he has been regularly attending Kalchakra puja at Bodh Gaya. This is his fifth visit to the Land of Buddha, reports said.
In 2010, the Hollywood actor had even led a candle light procession of several hundred Tibetans inside the historic Mahabodhi Temple saying he was with the people of Tibet and wanted peace everywhere in the world.
Keeping in view his support for Tibet’s independence, his entry to China remains banned now.
