PATNA: Yet another JD-U leader has been arrested for creating brawl and misbehaving with the people under the influence of liquor which strangely remains banned in Bihar, reports said.
Bihar has imposed total prohibition in April last year and under the new liquor law, drinking alcohol remains a serious offence.
Excise departments sleuths arrested JD-U leader Mohan Das and his friend Rajkishore Prasad in Muzaffarpur district on Wednesday night after they were found misbehaving with the passersby under the influence of liquor, local media reported today.
“We arrested both of them after being informed that they were creating nuisance after drinking alcohol,” an Excise department official Saurabh Kumar was quoted as saying in a local daily on Friday.
The arrested JD-U leader Mohas Das happens to be the local Motipur block chief (Dalit cell) of the party.
Last week, another JD-U leader Raj Kumar Thakur in Siwan was caught taking selfie with liquor bottle and posting it on his WhatsApp group. The police have now registered a case against him for violating the liquor law while the JD-U has dismissed him from the party.
Earlier in November, a JD-U leader from Bhojpur district Rakesh Singh who was an accused in a 2012 hooch tragedy case had posted his selfie with chief minister Nitish Kumar, prompting the JD-U leadership to expel him from the party.
The expelled leader was holding the post of Udwantnagar block unit chief of the JD-U.
