PATNA: Former president of Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union (JNUSU) Kanhaiya Kumar is likely to contest the next LS polls from Begusarai seat as a Grand Alliance candidate.
As per media reports, the RJD which heads the Grand Alliance in Bihar and the Congress party which is a part of the it, have agreed to spare the seat for Kanhaiya who will be contesting on CPI ticket.
“All Left leaders from Bihar to Delhi are in favour of his candidature from Begusarai in the 2019 Lok Sabha election,” state CPI general secretary Satyanarayan Singh told the India Today TV today.
“In principle, the RJD chief has agreed to field Kanhaiya as the joint opposition candidate from Begusarai. However, an official decision has not been taken so far,” he added
A native of Begusarai, Kanhaiya had hit the headlines when he was arrested in February 2016 by the Delhi Police following a controversial event in JNU during which anti-India slogans were allegedly raised.
Subsequently, he was jailed but Kanhaiya denies the charges leveled against him.
