Karnataka impact: RJD stakes claim to form govt in Bihar, seeks dismissal of NDA govt

PATNA: The political developments in Karnataka have suddenly impacted the Bihar politics.

Hours after the BJP which emerged as the single largest party in Karnataka was invited to form government, the RJD has now staked similar claim in Bihar, citing the same logic.

“If single largest party is being invited inspite of INC & JDS alliance having more numbers than required then we demand Hon. President to dismiss Bihar govt thru Governor & invite single largest party of Bihar to form govt as BJP is in Bihar govt due to post poll alliance,” tweeted Bihar opposition leader and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav today.

He said he would meet the Bihar governor along with all the party lawmakers at 1 pm on Friday, seeking for invitation to form government since “we are the single largest party in Bihar”.

He urged the President to dismiss the NDA government led by Kumar and invite the RJD form government in Bihar on the basis of “Karnataka formula”.

The RJD which has 80 members is the single largest party in the Bihar assembly. However, the Governor invited the JD-U-BJP combine to form governments in Bihar last year, ignoring RJD’s claim.

The JD-U with 71 seats comes second in matter of numerical strength in the House whereas the BJP comes to distant third with 53 seats.

In the last 2015 assembly polls, the Grand Alliance comprising RJD, JD-U and Congress had won 178 seats in Bihar assembly but chief minister Nitish Kumar broke away from the alliance in July last year and later managed to form his government with BJP support though both the parties had fought against each other.
