PATNA: A man was killed by giving a boiling water bath after he refused to part with his hard-earned fishes with some local influential villagers in Bihar.
The police fished out his body two days after the incident and registered a case against three persons. All the accused persons are absconding.
According to a complaint registered with the police, Yogendra Sahni, a resident of Maner block in Patna district, was returning home after fishing in the Sone river on Sunday when local influential persons caught him and asked to part with the entire 20 kg fish he had netted after much efforts.
The man instantly offered them two kg of fish but the powerful persons wanted to grab the entire quantity he had caught. Very soon, they walked inside the fisherman’s boat and captured the entire fish to which the man objected.
Witnesses said in a fit of range, the attackers dragged the fisherman out of the boat, took him to a lonely riverside and then bathed him with boiling water taken from a illegally-running liquor-brewing outlet in the area.
Reports said the attackers kept him bathing with boiling water until he died of extreme pain. After killing the man, the attackers threw his body in the same river and fled away.
The incident came to light after his cousin who was accompanying then victim on his boat when the attackers kidnapped him somehow fled the scene and narrated then entire incident to his family members.
The victim family alleged initially the local police didn’t show interest in their case but got active after his body was recovered from the river in neighbouring Bhojpur district. The police have registered a case against three persons but all the accused persons are absconding.
“Prima facie the incident took place over fishing controversy but we are investigating the case,” local Bhojpur district superintendent of police Awakash Kumar told the media on Wednesday. He said the accused persons would be caught very soon.
