Maoists threaten to ‘punish’ Jharkhand cops behind death penalty to two commanders

PATNA: Maoists have announced to “punish” the cops for the death sentence awarded to two of its comrades by a Jharkhand court last month.

“Identify the cops and punish them,” reads one of the hand-written posters pasted on the walls in Jharkhand.

Another poster claims the death sentence has been awarded to silence the voice of the poor but this will not prove helpful anymore.

Last month, a local court in Jharkhand had handed out death sentence to two Maoists for the killing of six policemen, including a district superintendent of police in 2013.

Additional district and sessions judge, Dumka, Mohammad Taufiqool Hasan awarded the death sentence to the Maoists on Wednesday saying their acts can’t be pardoned.

The incident had taken place in July 2013 in Kathikund police station area of Dumka district.

The then Pakur SP Amarjeet Balihar was returning after holding a meeting the senior police officials in Dumka when the Maoists ambushed them and attacked his carcade, killing six of them on the spot.
