PATNA: While talking to the media on Thursday, shortly after handing over a Rs 5 crore cheque to chief minister Nitish Kumar for Bihar flood victims, Gujarat education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama had made an important observation.
“Samay parivartanseel aur balwan hota hai (Time change…It is powerful),” Chudasama said.
All through the day on Thursday, this sound bytes of the minister continued grabbing media attention.
The million dollor question now being debated in the political circles is to whom this comment was directed at?
Political experts say this was very clearly directed towards Nitish Kumar who had returned the same amount cheque in 2010 and yesterday he was only too pleased to accept it.
They also see a pattern in the same amount cheque having been donated to Bihar by two other BJP-ruled States—Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand.
“He (Nitish Kumar) is being constantly made to remind Rs 5 crore he had returned to Gujarat earlier,” said a RJD leader.
Kumar had flatly returned the cheque of same amount to the Gujarat government then headed by Narendra Modi owing to his differences with BJP. But at presently, he has been left with no option other than blindly following the path of the BJP, experts assert.
According to them, Nitish Kumar has got constantly weakened over the years in the past five years.
Right now, he doesn’t enjoy the same grip over his voters as well the NDA owing to his constant change in stands.
In 2010, Bihar under him was one of the few NDA-ruled states but today the BJP is not only in power at the Centre but it also has the NDA governments in as many as 18 States—including BJP governments in 13 States.
He has also made a caricature of himself due to vacillation in his stand—sometimes joining Grand Alliance with Lalu Prasad the key player, sometimes the NDA; sometimes offering his chair to Jitan Ram Manjhi and then pushing him out to grab it!
