PATNA: ‘Munni’ and ‘Sheela’ continue to bleed Bihar a lot at this marriage season.
In a latest incident, one villager was killed when a marriage procession went out of control after listening “Munni badnam hui…” number and resorted to indiscriminate firing in the air out of extreme jubilation in Nalanda, the home district of chief minister Nitish Kumar, on Thursday night.
As per reports, a marriage procession had come to Ghorhadi village on Thursday night and to entertain the guests, nautch girls’ dance had been arranged.
Nautch girls began singing Bollywood songs once the marriage procession arrived. The guests, however, went out of control once the female dancers began singing “Munni badnam hui…”
Reports said once the music began, someone from among the crowd of guests began firing furiously in the air, leaving one dead on the spot. The victim was identified as Viresh Yadav (30).
Last week, two villagers had landed on the hospital bed after some youths joining a marriage procession resorted to similar firings in the air after the female singer began singing “Nathunia pe goli mare…” The incident took place in Gaya district of Bihar.
“Sheela ki jawani…” is yet another number that remain hot favourite among the revellers.
Celebratory firings at the time of marriage functions are quite common in parts of Bihar and have killed many people in the past few years. This practice is quite prevalent in Bihar’s western region, known as Bhojpuri belt.
