PATNA: The state government in Bihar headed by chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday made a significant hike in salary and perks of lawmakers.
A meeting of the state cabinet held under the chairmanship of Kumar approved 30 percent hike in basic salary of lawmakers. With this hike, their basic salary has increased to Rs40,000 from earlier Rs30,000, media reports said today.
The move will benefit a total of 318 lawmakers—243 members in Bihar Legislative Assembly and 75 in the Bihar Legislative Council.
The state cabinet also increased the annual travel allowances and stationary expenses of legislators while at the same time approving the salary hike of their personal assistants as well from existing Rs20,000 to Rs30,000, reports said.
The state cabinet also increased the constituency allowance of lawmakers and made them entitled for taking advance of Rs15 lakh (Rs1.5 million) for purchasing luxury vehicles.
