PATNA: Senior Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushil Kumar Modi has said Janata Dal United (JD-U) chief Nitish Kumat will be the chief minister candidate in the next 2020 Bihar assembly elections too.
“The NDA (National Democratic Alliance) will fight the next 2020 assembly polls again under the leadership of Nitish Kumar. He again will the chief ministerial candidate and also take the of the chief minister after the polls,” Modi told the media on Saturday.
Modi is currently the deputy chief minister in the NDA government headed by Kumar.
Modi’s reaction comes in the aftermath of Union minister Upendra Kushwaha claiming that Kumar is unwilling to continue as the chief minister.
“Nitish Kumar doesn’t want to continue as chief minister for another term. He personally has told me,” Kushwaha who heads the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) told a function in Patna on Wednesday. RLSP is a key constituent of the NDA.
“How long should I continue as the CM? 15 warsh ka vakt kuchh kam nahin hota! Aab main yah sthan chhodana chahta hun (15 years are not a small period and so I want to quit),” Kushwaha had quoted Kumar as saying at the function.
According to him, Kumar is reluctant to continue as CM post 2020 when the next assembly elections will be held.
