PATNA: Bihar chief minister sudden move to join hands with the BJP minutes after tendering resignations over the issue of corruption has stunned just everyone, even the political experts.
Many believe the “resignation drama” was part of his well drawn-up “political coup” foundation of which was apparently laid during Kumar’s interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a event in Patna held to mark 350th Prakash Parva in January this year.
The haste with which Nitish Kumar got letter of support from the BJP, held meeting with the NDA leaders at his 1, Anne Marg official residential, got elected as the leader of the NDA legislature party and then rushed to the Raj Bhawan in the odd hours to stake claim as the next chief minister gave ample hints about how his resignation drama was planned well in advance.
Kumar’s volte face looks really absurd given his recent statements towards the BJP as well as its ideological mentor, the RSS.
Given below is a list of some of the interesting statements made by the chief minister:
“Mitti mein mil jayenge lekin BJP se haath nahin milayenge…BJP ke saath unaki party ke gathbandhan ka aadhyay samapt ho gaya hai (I will prefer to be reduced to ashes rather than go with the BJP. The whole chapter of alliance with the BJP has finished now).” –At a function in Patna on February 18, 2014

“When Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi) was fighting against the British, when freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh and Chandrasekhar Azad gave their lives for the country, they (BJP and RSS) were not there. But today they are preaching nationalism. We don’t need nationalism lessons from them.” –At a rally in Varanasi on May 12, 2016
