PATNA: Poll strategist Prashant Kishore was today appointed the national vice-president of the Janata Dal United headed by chief minister Nitish Kumar. He had joined the JD-U barely a moth back.
“Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has given important responsibility to Prashant Kishore. He has been appointed the national vice-president,” party’s principal general secretary KC Tyagi told the media on Tuesday.
Tyagi explained Kishore had worked as poll strategist for various parties in the past and had adequate political experience.
He denied any resentment among party leaders over undue promotion of an ‘outsider’ at the cost of the grass-root party workers.
With this promotion, Kishore becomes almost No. 2 in the party after the chief minister.
Observers said Kishore has superseded many top leaders in the party, such as Lalan Singh, RCP Singh, KC Tyagi and Sanjay Jha who till recently were the part of the chief minister’s core team, and this move is bound to create tension in the JD-U in coming days.
