PATNA: It’s official now.
The JD-U headed by chief minister Nitish Kumar has finally “decided” to support NDA Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind who earlier served as the Governor of Bihar.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the party leaders held here on Wednesday.
“We decided to extend support to NDA’s presidential candidate #RamNathKovind as his tenure as Guv had been peaceful,” JD-U’s chief spokesperson KC Tyagi told the news agency ANI on Wednesday evening.
At the same time, he announced the JD-U would also not participate in the meeting of the opposition parties to be held tomorrow in Delhi, dealing a serious blow to opposition unity.
The RJD hit out at the JD-U for taking an altogether different stand over the issue despite being part of the grand alliance.
“Everyone knows he (Nitish Kumar) holds a soft corner towards the BJP but we have no problem. Instead of doing covertly, he should come out in open support of the BJP,” RJD legislator Bhai Birendra said.
