PATNA: Rebel BJP parliamentarian Shatrughan Sinha looks only too much confused.
At one occasion, he is seen calling on RJD chief Lalu Prasad in Ranchi jail, at other moment, he is caught in the company of the Samajawadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Singh Yadav.
In between, he has been heaping praises on Congress chief Rahul Gandhi. The problem before him is that all of them are eager to give him tickets but now it’s Sinha who looks confused as to from where to contest, reports said.
Sinha’s hunt for parties began right since the BJP started ignoring him. Sinha who was elected from Patna Sahib seat in Bihar apparently got annoyed after he was not included in the Narendra Modi cabinet.
In days to come, he virtually turned a rebel and began questioning the “selection” of ministers for Modi cabinet. Especially, he has been very critical of Union Textiles minister Smriti Irani and Finance minister Arun Jaitely.
“Well the Prime Minister has the prerogative to select his cabinet colleagues but I am wondering to see how a TV actress with no previous experience was directly made the HRD minister while ‘Wakil Babu’ was given the charge of key portfolio of finance,” Sinha told a function in Patna recently.
His reaction invited strong protests from the party leaders who suggested him to quit the BJP.
If the prevailing situation is any indication, he is not going to get party ticket but Sinha has announced to contest from the same Patna Sahib seat in every circumstances. “Whatever the situation may be, location will be the same,” Sinha has declared.
Now, Sinha is said to be in touch with both the RJD headed by Lalu Prasad and the Congress which are the partners of the opposition Grand Alliance.
Sinha has already met Prasad more than twice in jail in the past apparently looking for RJD ticket and reports are that the party is ready to field him if he desires so. On Saturday again, he met Prasad but he described it as a courtesy call.
The problem for the RJD is that Sinha has also been in touch with the Congress for his ticket as is evident from his repeated praises on Rahul Gandhi.
“I hold a very high regard for the Nehru family since the beginning…they are ‘national builders’. Whatever you see today, such as the IITs, IIM, roads and industrialization—are the contributions of this family,” Sinha has gone on record. Observers say Sinha might not be willing to contest from the RJD over the corruption taint on the RJD chief family.
But the twist is still not over. Past week, he also met SP chief Akhilesh Singh Yaadv, the second time in five months, triggering speculations that he could contest on SP ticket. There is also wide speculations of Sinha planning to contest form Varanasi seat in UP though it has not been confirmed.
