PATNA: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is mulling the option of authorizing party vice-president Rabri Devi to distribute party tickets among the candidates in the absence of her husband Lalu Prasad.
Being the RJD chief, only Prasad holds the rights to issue party symbols to his candidates but the problem is that he is currently in jail, serving prison sentence in fodder scam.
So as the last option, the RJD is now working on the idea of vesting in Rabri Devi the power to complete this important political obligation.
State party president Ram Chandra Purve said a meeting of the party’s state and central parliamentary board has been convened separately at the residence of Rabri Devi on March 9 to debate over the issue and find out a solution to the problem.
The party officials want to sort out the issue very soon as the Lok Sabha polls are not very far away and the Election Commission is about to make announcement of poll dates anytime.
In the beginning, Prasad himself tried to solve the issue by seeking bail from Jharkhand high court but he got his request rejected.
Now he has moved the Supreme Court seeking bail but the top court is yet to take up his bail petition.
The delay in grant of bail has, thus, compelled the party leadership to turn to Rabri Devi.
