PATNA: Children admitted to a government Urdu middle in Bihar have been studying among the dead—jumping over dozens of graves located in the school campus and taking lunches near them—but not before they have offered their prayers begging pardons for any nuisance on their part during the study time.
Meet the bizarre school located at Kayamnagar village under Koilwar block in central Bihar’s Bhojpur district, some 60 km from Patna.
A total of 248 children are enrolled in the school which was shifted to the graveyard land in 2006. Prior to its shifting the school which was set up in 1946 was running from a local mosque.
The children are forced to study among the dead enjoying eternal sleep in their graves as there is no other education institution located around. But to ensure, the dead souls didn’t disturb by visiting in their dreams and in other ways, the children first offer prayers at the cemetery before entering into the classes.
“We first offer prayers to the dead souls taking eternal sleep inside the graves before entering the school. We say, ‘O dead souls sitting inside the graves we offer our prayers’ and appeal them not to harm them. This is our daily routine,” a girl student Nisha Praveen told the media.
According to her, initially the children felt terrified going near the graves and avoided attending the school but lack any option compelled them to sit among the dead.
