Secular unity or…else? Lalu pays sudden visit to Nitish amid reports of differences

PATNA: RJD president Lalu Prasad today came out in support of forming a grand alliance of secular parties, a day after Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar gave this suggestion at his weekly public interaction programme.

Setting aside all inhibitions, Prasad rushed to the residence of the chief minister and endorsed his view with regard to bringing all the secular forces together to stop the surging BJP.

Prasad said all the secular forces would have to come on a single platform to defeat the BJP in the next general elections.

“I appeal to all non-BJP parties to come on a single platform. Unity among us is the lone option to defeat the BJP,” he told the media on Tuesday.

He revealed he already had begun approaching the secular leaders over telephone and would also be meeting face-to-face soon, saying it’s only little time left now.

The meeting is also said to be the last ditch attempt by both the leaders to iron out all differences that recently had cropped up and were clearly seen during the Bihar Diwas function in Patna’s Gandhi Maidan when entire Lalu family gave it a miss.

The differences deepened further when the chief minister invited the BJP leaders at dinner at his residence and then Kumar reciprocated the gesture by attending one such feast hosted by a senior BJP leader and Bihar Council chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh.
