PATNA: Shocked and shattered RJD workers and supporters have announced not to celebrate new year this year as a show of solidarity with incarcerated party chief Lalu Prasad.
“We won’t join the new year celebrations tomorrow. Our real celebration will be when the party chief comes out of jail,” said a RJD leader Guddu Yadav.
He is not alone. Majority of RJD workers are likely to stay away from the new year celebrations this year as Prasad remains imprisoned.
On Monday, the first day of the New Year, former deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav along with his party legislator and an advocate is expected to meet his father Prasad in jail.
The RJD president is currently lodged in Birsa Munda central jail, Ranchi after his conviction in the multi-million dollar fodder scam. The quantum of punishment will be announced on January 3.
Crowds of supporters are flocking to the jail everyday to meet Prasad in jail and express their solidarity with their leader at this hour of crisis although a new order of the jail administration is preventing them from meeting the RJD chief.
Under the new order issued by the jail administration, only three persons can meet Prasad in jail in a week.
