PATNA: Ina hair-raising incident, Maoists rebels today burnt alive a truck driver in Jharkhand during the day-long strike called to protest the police operation against them.
Reports said the truck coming from neighbouring Odisha state was on way to Jamshedpur when the rebels traced it in Khunti district and asked it to stop.
The moment the truck came to a halt, the rebels shot the driver and set the vehicle on fire, leaving him roasted alive.
The dawn-to-dusk shutdown badly hit the normal life in twin states of Jharkhand and Bihar as buses remained of the roads in many pockets considered to be the stronghold of rebels.
The business establishments too remained shut while the government offices reported think attendance. The railway traffic, however, was only partially hit.
