PATNA: Upper caste communities took to the streets today as part of the nation-wide shutdown against the SC/ST Amendment Act restoring old provisions.
Angry protesters burn tyres and blocked rail and road traffic in various parts of the state, leaving passengers stranded at railway stations and bus stops.
The protesters led by Sawarn Sena and the Bhumihar-Brahmin Ekta Manch disrupted traffic in districts like Patna, Gaya, Begusarai, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Nalanda, Muzaffarpur, Madhubni, Bhojpur, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura ,Nawada and Bhagalpur districts, media reports said.
They also shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sought reservation for poor among upper castes in jobs and educational institutions.
Around 30 organisations have given a call for “Bharat Bandh” on social media.
