SAHARSA: Bihar is again in the news for wrong reason.
In another embarrassment to the NDA government in Bihar headed by chief minister Nitish Kumar, more than three dozen girls from Saharsa district have stopped going to school owing to constant harassment by eve-teasers.
The girls alleged that the eve-teasers have been blocking their way, passing lewd comments and also hurling abuses at them, prompting them to quit study instead.
“No girl from my village is going to school now out of sexual harassments by the ruffians. The youths have been blocking our ways and passing lewd comments at us. So we have stopped going to school,” one of the girl student said.
Another girl student said the eve-teasers had sexually harassing them and also hurling abuses at them.
The incident comes close on the heels of similar incident in Supaul district where around 40 schoolgirls enrolled in a local Kasturba Gandhi Residential School were badly thrashed by a group of eve-teasers, landing them on the hospital bed.
The attackers didn’t spare the little girls and their teachers as well, and lashed them with bamboo sticks.
Authorities have arrested 10 persons in connection with the incident and also beefed up security around the school to prevent repeat of any such incident in future.
Both the districts fall in the same Kosi division.
