Vigilante groups thrash meat, cattle traders in Bihar, Jharkhand

PATNA: The vigilante groups have gone on the rampage ahead of Eid al-Adha or Bakr-Id, the feast of sacrifice for Muslims, scheduled later this month.

A group of cow vigilantes yesterday caught the driver and cleaner of a vehicle and assaulted them mercilessly on the suspicion of carrying beef. The incident took place in central Bihar’s Bhojpur district on Wednesday.

The truck was carrying the prohibited material from Jehanabad district when the villagers caught it and gave its occupants severe beating until the police rushed to the spot and recued them.

Another such incident was reported from Jharkhand’s Giridih where the vigilante group intercepted a vehicle carrying camels and rescued them.

The rescued camels have been put in the Bagodar police station premises under heavy security arrangements.

As per media reports, the animals were being brought from Rajasthan for slaughter during Eid al-Adha.
