PATNA: A death row convict in India’s Bihar state has expressed his wish to have plenty of milk in jail before he is executed.
The convict Jagat Rai is currently lodged in the Shaheed Jubba Sahni Central Jail in Bhagalpur, an eastern Bihar town.
He was served death sentence for killing seven members of a family by setting their house on fire at odd hours.
“His wish for more milk has been granted,” a jail official told the media on Thursday.
Rai had eliminated the entire family of his neighbour Bijendra Mahato just because the later had registered a case of buffalo theft against him. The incident had taken place at Rampur-Shyampur village in Vaishali district in 2006
On the fateful winter night of December 31, 2006 when Mahato along with his family members were sleeping in his thatched house, Rai along with others sprinkled inflammable liquids over the roof, locked the house from outside and then set it on fire, killing all of them.
As the local court awarded death to him, he moved the Supreme Court in appeal but it too upheld the lower court’s judgment.
As a last resort, Rai moved a mercy petition before President Ram Nath Kovind but here too he failed to get any reprieve as the latter rejected his request.
