PATNA: Political scholar and professor at Brown University, United States, Ashutosh Varshney, has described Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath as the second most powerful political in India after Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Personally I feel that the chief minister of UP is the second most powerful man in India after the Prime Minister,” Varshney told a local daily.
He made these observations on the sidelines of a function being organized by the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI), an NGO, in Patna.
He, however, has lot of apprehensions about the final outcome given the fact that Yogi is perhaps the first politician after Independence who happens to be the head of the state in addition to being the head of a religious institute.
Yogi took reins of the UP last week after the BJP swept to power with three-fourth majority, pulverizing the entire opposition.
