22 sentenced to life in jail for burning alive three members of a family
JHARKHAND COURT HANDS DOWN LIFE IMPRISONMENT TO ALL OF THEM AFTER THREE YEARS OF TRIAL
RANCHI: A local court in Jharkahnd has awarded life imprisonment to 22 persons for burning to death three members of a family suspecting them to be practicing black magic.
The district judge Gopal Pandey jailed all of them for life after holding them guilty for the bone-chilling murder.
The judgment comes three years after the victims were killed in cold blood at Thekatoli village in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga district. The incident had taken place in April 2, 2016.
An angry mob of local villagers had raided the house of Govardhan Bhagat on the fateful night and set their house on fire, leaving three members of the family charred to death, according to media reports.
Reports said the angry villagers had even attacked the car of the local district superintendent of police when he rushed for help. The villagers had alleged the Bhagat was practicing black magic and would sacrifice children.
Subsequently, a case was registered against 22 persons who were held guilty during the course of trial. Today they were awarded life for the gruesome crime.
