Bihar declares 3-day state mourning as ex-CM Jagannath Mishra passes away

PATNA: Former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra who was the last Congress leader to rule Bihar died after prolonged illness at a hospital in Delhi on Monday.

He was 82 and suffering from cancer.

Mishra who started his career as a professor went on become the chief minister of Bihar thrice. He also served as the Union minister.

The bad phase in his career came when he was convicted in the multi-billion dollar fodder scam and jailed. Of late, he was on bail for some time.

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar expressed condolences over his death and also declared a three-day state mourning.

“His death is an irreparable loss in the field of politics, society and education,” the chief minister said in his condolence message today.

Bihar governor Fagu Chauhan also condoled his death, describing his demise as an irreparable loss in the field of politics.
